Baptism

BAPTISM: WHAT IS IT?

Baptism is the rite of initiation into the Christian faith. This sacrament is based upon Jesus’ own baptism by John the Baptist when the spirit of God descended on him.

Scripture references: Matthew 3:13-17, Mark 1:9-11, Luke 3:21-22, John 1:29-34

THROUGH BAPTISM:

  • We are joined to God through Jesus Christ - sharing in his life, death and resurrection - in a covenant relationship.
  • God has promised us salvation and the forgiveness of our sins.
  • We promise to lead a new life committed to Jesus Christ.
  • New believers are introduced to the community.
  • We are invited to participate in the Holy Eucharist and to receive the highest offering of the church, the body and blood of Jesus Christ.
  • We are joined to all believers around the world in the one, holy, universal and apostolic church.

HOW DO I HAVE MY CHILD OR MYSELF BAPTIZED?

Baptism preparation is available for adults seeking to be baptized or parents seeking to have their child baptized in the Anglican tradition. Preparation involves meeting with the Priest and studying what it means to share in the new life committed to Jesus Christ and what that looks like.
